Reptiles & Aquatics are a large grouping and their anatomy and bodily functions are very different from the other species that we treat.
However, general principles still apply in terms of spotting illness.
- Loss of appetite/weight loss
- Vomiting or regurgitation/diarrhea/blood in feces
- Drinking abnormal amounts (especially if amount is increased)
- Abnormal urination/trouble passing urine
- Passing no feces
- Coughing/sneezing/abnormal breathing
- Pain or lameness
For Fish, proper husbandry depends as much on proper maintenance of water parameters (Nitrite/Nitrate Cycle, Temperature, PH … etc.) as it does with general care (feeding) of the pet itself. Unclean water or overcrowding is often the source of illness.
It is good practice to diligently observe and establish a baseline for what is normal in your pet’s behavior. Rest assured that our specialists will help you identify the best course of treatment. A home visit is often the most appropriate course of action for fish species. Home visits are available upon booking. Please contact us for more information.
