Dr. Stephen graduated from National Taiwan University and has since dedicated his career to providing exceptional medical care for exotic animals such as pikas, rabbits, and other small mammals.
Driven by his passion for exotic pet medicine, he completed internships at Kanazawa Zoo and Tokyo University in Japan, as well as Shoushan Zoo and the National Museum of Marine Biology & Aquarium in Taiwan.
Dr. Stephen later worked as a full-time veterinary surgeon at an exotic pet clinic in Taiwan before relocating to Hong Kong in mid-2022, where he joined the Maple Exotic Veterinary Centre.
Currently, Dr. Stephen is actively expanding his expertise in general surgery, endoscopic surgery, and orthopedic surgery while pursuing his certification to become a specialist in Exotic Companion Mammals through the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners (ABVP).
Dr. Stephen is also passionate about medical research, having published notable papers such as “Use of chemotherapy in Syrian hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus) with epitheliotropic T-cell lymphoma” and “Seminal vesiculitis in Golden hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus).”
As a consultant for the Hong Kong animal charity “Tolobunny,” he frequently collaborates with various charity organizations to deliver educational lectures.
In addition to his professional work, Dr. Stephen shares his medical knowledge on social media through his Facebook and Instagram pages, “dr.stephenchan,” offering valuable insights to pet owners.
When he’s not at work, Dr. Stephen enjoys cooking fine dinners for his wife and occasionally making desserts to share with friends.
