Pet Care - Fish

  • Fish vet visit checklist

How do you bring your fish for a vet check?

    • Bring your fish in a container of its own tank water. This container should be large enough for the fish to swim comfortably and turn around. Any leakproof container will do (Tupperware, coolers, etc)
    • Bring a second container of tank water. This water can be used for sedation, if needed. It can also be used to "freshen up" the water for the return trip home and to test water quality.
    • Something to regulate the temperature of the water- towels for insulation, heat packs for warm water fish, etc. Don't forget a travel thermometer to check your temperatures (we will have temperature probes in the hospital as well).
    • Towels for any water spillage that may occur in the car.
    • A photo of your fish tank (digital photo is fine). Preferably of the filtration system as well.
    • Completed Fish History Form (this can be filled out in the office, but may save time to fill out before your visit)
    • Optional items:
      • Fish net for moving the fish (we have hospital nets, but it's always best to use your own).
      • A battery operated bubbler. We have a bubbler at the hospital for while your pet is here, but extra oxygen can help on longer transports.
